The
50-member Centralia Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the oldest,
non-professional orchestras in Southern Illinois. A typical
season offers something for everyone including classical music,
a cabaret style pops concert, an outdoor concert complete
with fireworks and a Christmas holiday concert with the Choral
Society and area school choirs.
Children's concerts are often
given and a Young Artist Competition with monetary prizes
is held to encourage young musicians. Workshops are provided
in dulcimer music, the Suzuki method of violin, and others
if interest is shown. Musicians are welcome for all of Southern
Illinois. The Orchestra rehearses on Monday evenings at the
Community Arts Center, at 7 p.m. prior to performances. Suzuki
Violin Classes meet at 4:30 & 5:30 p.m. on Mondays.
