NEW HARMONIES: CELEBRATING AMERICAN ROOTS MUSIC
The Centralia Cultural Society has been selected as one of six communities throughout Illinois to host the Smithsonian traveling exhibit, NEW HARMONIES: Celebrating American Roots Music. The tour is developed by Museum on Main Street (MoMS), a partnership between the Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) and the Smithsonian Institution. The exhibit explores the development of Americans’ creative expression through music. The music that emerges is known by names like blues, country western, folk ballads, and gospel. The main beat of the exhibition is the on-going cultural process that has made America the birthplace of more music than any place on earth. The exhibition provides a fascinating, inspiring, and toe-tapping listen to the American story of multi-cultural exchange.

SMITHSONIAN EXHIBIT
OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION

7:30pm

Chris Vallillo, Illinois State Scholar for the New Harmonies tour, will take the stage as he launches into a combination of narrative, storytelling and music. Vallillo is a performer with an affinity for American roots music and a gift for translating historic topics into modern day understanding. A former archaeologist turned folksinger/songwriter, he is a skilled six-string and bottleneck slide guitarist whose love of the past evolved into a love for old music. Hor'devers along with wine and punch will be served.  Tickets are $15.  Doors to Exhibit will open one hour before program.
