"Along
the Oregon Trail", written by Little Theatre member Jan Jones Heischmidt
and directed by Jeanne Jones, is a comedy western which takes place
in 1850. The story is about a wagon train party lead by a visually challenged
guide named Hardtack Harry and his Indian companion Beaver Bob. Among
the mismatched group of people on this trek are ranchers, newlyweds,
a rich arrogant banker with a strongbox full of gold and his less than
loving wife, three mail order brides, a woman of "entertaining" virtues,
a New York Tribune reporter and two dimwitted brothers intent on robbing
the wagon train of all valuables. As the wagon train travels from Independence,
MO, to its intended destination of Oregon City, Oregon, the group encounters
illness, wagon mishaps and conflicting personalities. What happens along
the journey is ...(well, come see the show). But with its slightly melodramatic
overtones, rest assured that everyone except the banker lives happily
ever after.
